Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival Returns with Star-Studded Parade

UPDATE: The Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival and Parade has officially returned for its 34th year, lighting up North Michigan Avenue in Chicago this weekend! The event, taking place just before Thanksgiving, promises to be an unforgettable spectacle featuring beloved characters like Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse from Walt Disney World Resort.

Expected to draw up to one million attendees, this year’s festival marks the official kickoff of the holiday season not just in Chicago, but across the nation. The parade will air on ABC7 on Sunday, November 23, at 6 p.m., ensuring that those who can’t make it in person won’t miss a moment of the excitement.

The festivities began earlier today with a free concert by Chicago’s own Plain White T’s at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Court, 401 N. Michigan Ave. They will join the parade, along with performances by DJ White Shadow, a GRAMMY-winning producer debuting a Chicago-themed float, and Club Nouveau performing their classic hit “Lean on Me.”

This year’s parade is set to run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., moving south on North Michigan Avenue from Oak Street to Wacker Drive. Attendees are encouraged to wear holiday sweaters in an effort to break the record for the most festive attire at a parade.

The festival features the illumination of one million lights on over 200 trees, creating a stunning visual display that captivates both locals and visitors alike. Attendees can expect to see floats, giant helium balloons, marching bands, celebrities, and of course, the appearance of Santa Claus himself.

“This festival not only brings joy to our community but also marks the beginning of the holiday spirit for many,” organizers stated.

For those interested in attending, Lights Festival Lane will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, offering a vibrant atmosphere filled with activities and entertainment.
