UPDATE: The West Ranch girls’ basketball team has officially opened their league play with a thrilling victory over Golden Valley, securing a 26-20 win on December 2, 2025, at West Ranch High School. This marks the Wildcats’ seventh win of the season, bringing their record to 7-1 and 1-0 in the Foothill League.
The game was highlighted by an intense duel between freshman guards Mia Vallas of West Ranch and Brighton Blythe of Golden Valley. Vallas led the Wildcats with an impressive 16 points, including two three-pointers, showcasing her skill and determination throughout the match. “We battled the whole game. We played great defense and worked really hard,” said West Ranch head coach Paul Gross.
In a commendable effort for Golden Valley, Blythe scored 13 points on 6-for-13 shooting, despite the team’s loss, bringing their record to 4-3 and 0-1 in league play. The Grizzlies will take a break this Friday but are set to compete in the Triumph Charter and Viewpoint tournament at Vaugh High School on December 4-5.
Coach Gross praised Vallas’ performance while emphasizing the collective effort of the team. “Seven different Wildcats scored in the win, with freshman forward Arianna Corona contributing 12 points,” he noted. “We got a great group from one to 12 of girls that just play hard all the time.” This victory not only boosts morale but also sets a strong tone as the Wildcats prepare for their upcoming match against the Castaic Coyotes on Friday at 5 p.m..
In other Foothill League action on Tuesday, the Saugus Centurions defeated the Castaic Coyotes 73-32, led by EvaMarie Rios who achieved a double-double with 20 points and 10 assists. The Canyon Cowboys also triumphed over the Hart Hawks 56-27, with sophomore guard Darby Dunn leading with 27 points.
This league opener not only showcases rising talents but also sets the stage for a competitive season ahead. Fans are eagerly anticipating the Wildcats’ next game against the Coyotes, as the team aims to build on this momentum and continue their winning streak.
