BREAKING NEWS: Walter Bernard Ament, aged 93, has passed away on October 28, 2025, surrounded by family at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. Known for his multifaceted life and deep connections, Ament leaves behind a legacy of love and storytelling that will resonate with all who knew him.
Ament, born on June 5, 1932, in Bluffton, MN, had an extraordinary life filled with diverse experiences. He was a farmer, miner, logger, fisherman, gardener, refrigeration expert, and even a cowboy. However, it was his role as a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend that defined him most significantly.
On January 21, 1956, he married his pen pal and lifelong companion, Dorothy Blotti, with whom he built a beautiful family in Morgan Park, MN. Despite spending his life in Minnesota, he maintained strong bonds with his nine siblings and extended family on the west coast.
Walter was not just a remarkable individual; he was a vibrant storyteller and a trusted mentor. His family and friends describe him as an honest man with a big heart. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his parents; eight siblings; and his daughter, Judith Anne.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Alice Otto, daughters Pamella (Dan) Wallgren and Mary (Mike) Johnson, and granddaughters Emily (Clayton Gries) Wallgren, Kate Johnson, and Anna Johnson. He will also be remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and his best friend, Chuck.
Walt’s family expresses gratitude to the dedicated hospice staff from Essentia Health, especially Brandy, Cindy, and Nate, as well as the Care Planning Institute provided by the VA and drivers from Medspeed.
Visitation will take place at 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial on November 7, 2025, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, located at 2410 Morris Thomas Road. Father Anthony Craig will officiate the service. Following the mass, Ament will be laid to rest at Oneota Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Duluth Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that was close to Walt’s heart. Arrangements are being handled by Williams Lobermeier Boettcher Funeral Home.
Walter Bernard Ament’s passing is a significant loss to his family and community, but his spirit will undoubtedly live on through the countless lives he touched.
