UPDATE: Maria T. Wierzbowski, aged 83, has passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on November 17, 2025. Born on June 11, 1942, in Hamburg, Germany, Maria’s remarkable life journey left a profound impact on her family and community.
Maria migrated to the United States in 1968, bringing her passion for craftsmanship as a master seamstress. She later worked at General Electric Research and Development, showcasing her industrious spirit. Her dedication to helping others led her to pursue nursing, further highlighting her compassionate nature.
Known for her love of the outdoors, Maria found joy in maintaining her garden and creating beautiful handmade wreaths and quilts. Her home was a sanctuary filled with laughter, polka music, and cherished family memories, a testament to her devotion to family.
Maria is survived by her two sons, Edward Wierzbowski and Adam Wierzbowski, along with her beloved grandchildren, Kirsten, Zara, Luca, and Ayla Wierzbowski. She was predeceased by her husband, Zygmunt Wierzbowski, in 1993, and her brothers.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the chapel at Memory Gardens in Colonie, New York, followed by interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glenville Hill Volunteer Fire Department at 1086 Church Road, Glenville, NY 12302.
