Urgent Update: Beloved Safety Advocate David Platt Passes Away at 70

BREAKING: David “Dave” Platt, a well-respected safety advocate and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, at the age of 70, following a short illness. His loss resonates deeply across his communities in California and Washington, where he made significant contributions throughout his life.

Born on June 14, 1955, in Whittier, CA, Dave’s early life was marked by active participation in Scouting, Little League Baseball, and cherished family camping trips. He graduated from Calhi School in 1973 before pursuing higher education at Sonoma State University, where he earned his degree in Anthropology in 1978.

After moving to Northern California, Dave married Jan Vogee and later settled in the Santa Cruz area, where he remarried Ailene Platt and welcomed his daughter, Carolanne Baker. His career flourished as he became a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) for the state of California, earning the nickname “The Safety Guy.” He dedicated himself to teaching employers safety practices to protect their staff from harm.

In 2019, Dave relocated to Sequim, WA, where he enjoyed his final years, pursuing passions such as photography, cooking, and fishing. A founding member of the Whittier Boys Club, Dave was known for his love of music and frequent concert attendance, leaving a vibrant legacy in his wake.

Dave is survived by his wife, Merribeth Platt, whom he married in 2006, along with his daughter, siblings, and extended family. His parents, Arthur and Marian Platt, preceded him in death.

Friends and family are encouraged to honor Dave’s memory by contributing to the American Cancer Society, reflecting his spirit of advocacy and care for others.
