Urgent: Two Churches in North Carolina Set Ablaze by Arsonist

UPDATE: In a shocking act of arson, two churches in Casar, North Carolina, were set ablaze on the night of October 20, 2023. The fires were reported between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. in the small town of just 300 residents, located northwest of Charlotte. Authorities from the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incidents.

Both Tabernacle Baptist Church and Calvary’s Cross Baptist Church were deliberately targeted, but thanks to quick-thinking local citizens, the flames were extinguished before any substantial damage occurred. Witnesses reported that as the fires started, nearby campers used their drinks to help douse the flames at Calvary’s Cross Baptist Church.

Pastor Homer Tessner of Tabernacle Baptist Church remarked on the heroic actions of those who intervened, noting, “If it wasn’t for them, it might not be here yet.”

The community is in disbelief. Pastor Billy Boone from Calvary’s Cross Baptist Church expressed shock, stating, “We’ve never had anything like this happen before, and the church has been in existence for 50 years.”

No arrests have been made yet as authorities continue their investigation. The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of community vigilance, praising the individuals who prevented further destruction.
