Urgent: NYC Hit by First Snowfall of the Season; Advisory In Effect

UPDATE: New Yorkers woke up to a snowy morning on December 14, 2025, as the city’s first significant snowfall blanketed several areas with 3 to 6 inches of snow by 8 a.m. today. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory that remains in effect until 1 p.m. today, warning residents of hazardous road conditions.

Snowfall is expected to continue throughout the morning and into the afternoon, with the heaviest accumulation predicted before noon. According to the NWS, motorist safety is at risk due to slick, snow-covered roads. “Slow down and use caution while traveling,” meteorologists advised.

Temperatures are struggling to stay above freezing, with highs only reaching 32 degrees Fahrenheit and lows dipping to 20 degrees. While snow is not forecasted for Monday’s commute, temperatures will remain around freezing, raising concerns about potential icing conditions on streets and sidewalks.

Property owners are urged to act quickly. City law mandates that sidewalks must be cleared within four hours after the snowfall ends, with fines ranging from $100 to $150 for non-compliance.

Meanwhile, the NYC Emergency Management is closely monitoring the coastal storm responsible for this snowfall. Travel disruptions have already begun, impacting ground and air transportation across the city. As of 8 a.m., subway lines 1, A, and R were experiencing delays due to the weather.

At LaGuardia Airport, some flights have been delayed by over two hours, according to the FAA, while JFK Airport is also facing potential delays for both arriving and departing flights.
