The disturbances began around 7:30 p.m. when officers observed several groups converging in a park area near the Navy Yard Metro Station. “The behavior displayed last night in Navy Yard is unacceptable, and MPD and our law enforcement partners will have an increased presence tonight to ensure this does not happen again,” said Chief of Police Pamela Smith in an official statement.
The situation intensified as MPD called in additional support, including Metro Transit Police and members of the Federal Task Force, to help disperse the crowd. By approximately 11:00 p.m., law enforcement had cleared the area, directing many juveniles to the Metro Station.
