Urgent: Hit-and-Run in Marion County Leaves One Dead, FHP Seeks Suspect

UPDATE: A devastating hit-and-run incident in Marion County has resulted in the death of one individual and left another seriously injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The collision occurred around 7:30 p.m. last night on SW 27 Circle, just north of SW 137 Loop.

The victims, both from Ocala, were attending to a disabled dump truck when they were struck by a gray or silver Jeep Cherokee that failed to navigate a curve. Witness reports indicate that one of the pedestrians was propelled into an unoccupied SUV parked nearby.

Initially, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee stopped but fled the scene shortly after. Authorities believe the vehicle continued traveling south on SW 27 Circle before turning onto SW 137 Loop.

Emergency services transported the victims to the hospital. Tragically, a 76-year-old man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, while a 45-year-old man sustained serious injuries. The FHP is actively investigating the incident and is urging the public for assistance in locating the driver.

Authorities have confirmed that the suspect’s vehicle likely sustained damage to its right front and grille during the collision.
