UPDATE: A devastating three-vehicle crash in Fayette County has left three people dead and five others hospitalized following an accident on Route 40 on Monday night. The collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. near Dark Hollow Road in Henry Clay Township, prompting an immediate response from state police.
Authorities report that a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound on Route 40 veered into the westbound lanes, resulting in a head-on collision with a Ford pickup truck. The impact was catastrophic, leading to a second head-on crash involving the pickup truck and a Chevrolet express van. The drivers of both the tractor-trailer and the Ford pickup, along with a front seat passenger in the van, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency medical services rushed five additional occupants of the van, including its driver, to local hospitals for urgent evaluation and treatment. Their conditions are currently unknown. The Fayette County Coroner’s office, led by Coroner Bob Baker, is working diligently to identify the victims due to the severity of the crash and is coordinating efforts to notify next of kin.
The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, with the Trooper B Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialists (CARS) and the Forensic Services Unit (FSU) assisting in the case.
