UPDATE: The highly anticipated 19th annual Coaches Choice USA Staten Island vs. New Jersey Challenge is set to unfold this Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Moore Catholic High School in Graniteville, Staten Island. Fans can expect an exciting lineup of five games starting at 11 AM, bringing together some of the best young talent from both regions.
In a thrilling twist, the second game will showcase a matchup between Staten Island Academy and Bound Brook, featuring head coaches who are both former Jaques Award winners. This adds an extra layer of excitement and competition to an already prestigious event.
Sandy Litkenhaus, a Jaques Award winner from the 1986-87 season, is making her coaching debut at SIA. She will face Jen Derenjanik, one of only two three-time Jaques winners (1998-2000), who is in her 12th season leading Bound Brook. Both coaches are alumni of the now-defunct St. Peter’s Girls High School, making this matchup particularly special.
Former Islander and longtime St. John Villa varsity coach James Martinos has played a crucial role in organizing this event, ensuring that the tradition continues to thrive.
