URGENT UPDATE: Salvatore Maimone, an esteemed member of the Schenectady community, has passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on December 23, 2025, at Capstone Nursing Home. His family reports that he was surrounded by loved ones during his final moments.
Born on March 26, 1937, in Meri, Messina, Sicily, Salvatore emigrated to the United States in 1971 with his wife, Antonina. Together, they established a life in Schenectady, where Sal became a well-respected mason with Local 190 in Albany.
Sal’s contributions to the community extended beyond his trade; he was an active member of the Sons of Italy on Hamburg Street, fostering connections and cultural ties among Italian-Americans in the region. He is remembered fondly by friends and family alike for his dedication to his craft and his community.
In addition to his wife, who predeceased him in 2006, Salvatore is survived by his sons, Giuseppe and Orazio Maimone, along with grandchildren Nicolina, Angelo, Kamden, Ava, Sal, Anthony, and Roberto. He is also survived by his sister, Anna, who resides in Italy, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
A calling hour is scheduled for Monday, December 29th, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, located at 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. This will be followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m., with interment at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
