UPDATE: Sacramento has made urgent strides in tackling homelessness, managing over 2,000 cases in just one week. The City’s Incident Management Team (IMT) released a critical report detailing their progress from November 10-16, revealing a significant response to the ongoing crisis.
During this week, the City’s 311 customer service received 544 calls, resulting in the opening of 2,096 cases. This number reflects a comprehensive approach, as multiple cases can arise from a single call. The IMT also reported a positive outcome, with 2,466 cases closed, signifying successful interventions or compliance achieved.
In a noteworthy effort to connect individuals with essential resources, 74 people were enrolled in databases that link them to local shelters and services. Furthermore, 17 individuals secured housing placements at the City’s Roseville Road campus and the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC), showcasing a critical step toward stability for those in need.
Despite these advancements, Sacramento faces a pressing capacity issue. Currently, there are zero Pallet homes and trailers available at the Roseville Road campus, with only two spaces at the OEC and an average of 13 openings at City-funded shelters. This shortage underscores the ongoing challenge of providing adequate shelter and resources for the homeless population.
To further address the visible impact of homelessness, Sacramento’s team conducted extensive waste removal efforts, successfully disposing of 50,140 pounds of trash. This initiative highlights the City’s commitment to not only managing homelessness but also improving the urban environment for all residents.
Transparency remains a cornerstone of Sacramento’s strategy, with a public data dashboard available for tracking the IMT’s weekly progress since September 2023. This resource provides cumulative figures for outreach, compliance, and cleanup efforts, reinforcing the City’s accountability in addressing the homelessness crisis.
As Sacramento continues to navigate this complex issue, residents are urged to stay informed and engaged. The City’s ongoing efforts are critical in shaping a more compassionate and effective response to homelessness.
