Blaney’s illustrious career began in 1958 when he became a pastor in Southern California, serving notable congregations like the Brentwood and Los Feliz Methodist Churches in Los Angeles. He later spent nearly 30 years as a professor at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, where he shaped the minds of future leaders in the Religious Studies Department. His courses included vital topics such as Social Ethics and Biomedical Ethics, reflecting his commitment to contemporary issues.

Throughout his career, Blaney was a tireless advocate for marginalized communities, including farmworkers and the LGBTQ community. He played a crucial role in establishing the Council of Bishops’ Scholarship Program alongside Bishop Talbert, emphasizing education’s importance in social justice. He is survived by his devoted wife, Laurel, his daughters, Martha and Joy, and his cherished grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, and Isabella. The couple shared a loving marriage of over 63 years, having met in Maine.
