UPDATE: Just reported, Amber Brown, a Master Cosmetologist, attributes her career success to her education at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. After graduating seven years ago, she now thrives at Root 102 Salon in Nashville.
In an exclusive interview, Brown revealed how crucial her hands-on training at Wiregrass’s Cook Campus was in preparing her for the salon environment. “The live-work services and client interaction gave me the real-world experience I needed to succeed,” she stated.
Brown’s journey is a testament to the quality of education provided by Wiregrass. With a robust curriculum, students are required to master a specific number of hours and competencies to graduate. Frank Barnett, Dean of Academic Affairs, emphasized the importance of practical training in the college’s cosmetology lab, which integrates customer service elements.
Reflecting on her career choice, Brown said she has always had a passion for hairstyling. “Helping clients feel confident is what I love most about my job,” she noted, highlighting the joy she derives from making her clients happy.
During her time at Wiregrass, Brown was actively involved in the SkillsUSA Chapter and the Student Government Association. She showcased her skills at the state level, earning two silver medals in Job Skill Demo and Entrepreneurship, and participated in the national competition.
As a message to current students, Brown urged them to remain persistent. “Building a clientele takes time. Keep learning and don’t let mistakes define you. Embrace them as part of your growth,” she advised.
The Cosmetology program is available across multiple campuses including Ben Hill-Irwin, Coffee, Cook, and Valdosta, making it accessible for aspiring cosmetologists.
