URGENT UPDATE: A tragic snowmobile collision has left a 57-year-old man dead near Orr, Minnesota, on Tuesday. The crash occurred at 12:26 p.m. on the Arrowhead Snowmobile Trail, approximately one mile north of Sheep Ranch Road, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene following a 911 call, but efforts to save the man were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene after being thrown from his snowmobile in the collision. Authorities report that both snowmobiles were traveling in opposite directions when they collided while navigating a curve, resulting in a sideswipe impact.
The victim, who has not yet been identified pending family notification, lost control of his snowmobile, rolled several times, and was ejected from the machine. Thankfully, the driver of the second snowmobile was not injured in the incident. Both operators were the sole occupants of their respective snowmobiles.
A multi-agency response was coordinated to assist in the incident, including the Orr Fire Department, Virginia Fire Department’s ALS Sprint Medic, Life Link III air ambulance, and Kabetogama first responders, alongside the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
This incident highlights the dangers of snowmobiling, especially as winter sports continue to gain popularity in the region. As investigations proceed, authorities are urging all snowmobile operators to exercise caution on the trails.
