URGENT UPDATE: Significant traffic disruptions are set to impact Boulder County and surrounding areas from November 1 to November 7. Multiple construction projects will cause lane closures and detours, affecting daily commuters and local residents.
Among the most critical changes, 28th Street improvements from Pearl to Iris will result in the temporary relocation of the northbound RTD Stop No. 17992, serving routes 205 and BOLT. This stop will be moved just south of the Valmont intersection until December 31, leading to increased congestion.
Additionally, a major bridge replacement over Fourmile Canyon Creek at 19th Street will close northbound traffic between Sumac and Upland. Crews are set to begin work immediately, with the project expected to continue until April 1. Commuters should anticipate detours via Quince.
In another significant effort, the 63rd Street waterline replacement will close 63rd, Andrus, and 62nd between Jay and Valmont. Even though access for businesses and residents will be maintained, full closures in some areas are expected to last until April 1.
Also noteworthy, ongoing milling and paving operations on Colo. 7 will cause alternating double-lane closures between 28th Street and Cherryvale Road from 7 a.m. to midnight on weekdays. This project is expected to wrap up by December 15.
Over at Sugarloaf Road, two culvert replacements at Betasso Road will require lane closures and a temporary three-way traffic signal, which could cause significant delays. The work will continue into November, but access to Betasso Preserve will remain open.
In the city of Boulder, the waterline replacement project on 63rd Street will have traffic impacts extending through February. Expect local access only as closures are enforced between Jay and Valmont, and traffic will shift to the east side of 63rd Street between Gunbarrel Avenue and the railroad crossing.
Drivers should also be aware of further closures due to the Colo. 119 safety and mobility construction, anticipated to be completed by spring 2027. This project is designed to enhance safety and improve bikeway access.
In nearby Erie, the Prince Lake Dam rehabilitation at 111th Street and Flatiron Meadows Boulevard will continue through March 2026, with minimal lane closures expected but potential delays due to work trucks accessing the site.
Furthermore, lane closures on Erie Parkway and Glacier Drive for traffic signal installation are scheduled through December, occurring on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Finally, Weld County will fully close WCR 1.5 between Erie and WCR 3, and WCR 3 between WCR 10 and 10.5 until November 26 for maintenance, with closures in effect 24 hours a day.
Residents and commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly, as these developments are set to significantly impact travel in and around Boulder County. Stay tuned for updates as the situation evolves.
