UPDATE: Lorraine F. Lease, a cherished member of the Bethlehem community and dedicated educator, has passed away at the age of 94. She peacefully departed at St. Luke’s Hospice in Bethlehem on January 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and education.
Born on December 11, 1931, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, Lorraine was the daughter of Robert and Cora Florey. She embarked on a remarkable career in education after graduating from Liberty High School, earning her teaching degree from Kutztown University and a Master’s degree in Education from Lehigh University. Over more than three decades, she devoted herself to teaching, spending 20 years at the Bethlehem Area School District, shaping the minds of countless young students.
In retirement, Lorraine and her late husband, George M. Lease, who passed away on February 22, 2003, enjoyed an active lifestyle that included traveling, tennis, golf, and skiing. An avid reader, she delighted in crossword puzzles, sang with the Moravian Village chorus, and cherished time spent with friends and family.
Lorraine’s commitment to her community extended beyond the classroom. She volunteered for various organizations, including Meals on Wheels, the Allentown Art Museum, Cops n’ Kids, and the New Bethany soup kitchen, demonstrating her deep dedication to helping others. She was also a long-term member of Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem.
She is survived by her sisters, Althea Lazun of Bethlehem and Joyce Hess (Howard) of Hempstead, North Carolina, her stepdaughters Joan Johnson of Gainesville, Georgia, and Susan Baier of Snowflake, Arizona, along with six step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, six step-great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Roberta Florey.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for March 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at the Central Moravian Chapel, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life. A private inurnment for family will take place at a later date at Bethlehem Memorial Park.
