UPDATE: A stunning 17-foot balsam fir from Turck’s Trees in Litchfield, Minnesota, is now set to shine as the official Capitol Christmas tree for 2025. Delivered earlier this week, the tree will be decorated on Monday, just in time for the festive season ahead.
This milestone marks a proud moment for Turck’s Trees, which was honored with this selection after winning grand champion at the Minnesota State Fair earlier this year. “It is a long-standing Minnesota tradition, but the first time for Turck’s Trees,” stated a news release from the farm.
The majestic tree, known for its rich green needles and natural conical shape, was transported to the State Capitol in St. Paul on Tuesday and expertly set up in the rotunda by Capitol staff. This year’s selection was competitive, with Turck’s chosen from more than 120 entries from Minnesota Christmas Tree Association members across the state.
Turck’s Trees has deep roots in Minnesota, with the family-run farm established in 1875. The Turck family began cultivating Christmas trees in 1981 and has been selling them for over 35 years. Currently, they manage approximately 100 acres of Christmas and landscape trees, with the fourth, fifth, and sixth generations of the family actively involved in the business.
The balsam fir is not only the most fragrant of all Christmas tree varieties, but it also boasts excellent needle retention after being cut. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the tree through the holiday season, adding to the festive atmosphere at the Capitol.
As the decorations go up on Monday, excitement builds around this year’s Capitol Christmas tree, a symbol of celebration and community spirit. Stay tuned for further updates as this beautiful tree takes center stage in the heart of Minnesota’s government. Share this joyful news with friends and family as we embrace the holiday season together!
