Holy Family Haven Opens 72 Affordable Apartments in Clarkston

BREAKING NEWS: Clarkston welcomes Holy Family Haven, a new apartment complex providing 72 affordable housing units, aimed at supporting families in need. The grand opening ceremony, which took place earlier today at 1411 Port Drive, was a vibrant celebration led by students from Holy Family Catholic School, whose artwork and ideas inspired the project.
Jonathan Mallahan, executive director of Catholic Charities Housing, confirmed that half of the units are already occupied and more families are set to move in soon. “It was so nice to have all of the Holy Family students there to celebrate the grand opening,” Mallahan stated, emphasizing the emotional connection between the community and the new development.
The official blessing by a local priest marked a significant milestone for the complex, attended by city leaders, community members, and representatives from Catholic Charities and Horizon Housing Alliance. During the ceremony, students showcased their colorful artwork and sang their school song, creating an uplifting atmosphere.
In her opening remarks, Mayor Monika Lawrence praised the project, noting that executive director John Pilcher had “promised Clarkston a top-notch housing project, and he really delivered.” Pilcher highlighted that Holy Family Haven is not merely a shelter, but a community offering families a safe place to thrive.
The complex features 30% of units available for families earning between 30% to 60% of the area median income, along with 35 units designated for individuals who have faced homelessness. Mallahan explained that these homes provide more than just shelter; they serve as a foundation for families to make lasting changes in their lives.
Additionally, Holy Family Haven will offer comprehensive support services to residents, including mental health counseling, substance abuse recovery support, transportation to medical appointments, senior support, and employment assistance. Fresh food distribution is also part of the initiative, ensuring families have access to healthy options.
