UPDATE: Hillsborough County’s transformative program, Duffels of Dignity, celebrates its third anniversary with an unprecedented surge in support, distributing a record number of duffel bags to foster children in need this October. The initiative, which began in October 2020, has made a profound impact by offering not only essential items but also dignity to local children.
JUST ANNOUNCED: This month, the program achieved a remarkable milestone, amassing over 5,587 duffel bags and suitcases filled with vital supplies. Hundreds of volunteers rallied to ensure that these bags reach the children who rely on them most. The community’s generosity has reached new heights, with significant contributions from local businesses and organizations.
The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Conference, recently held in Tampa, chose Duffels of Dignity as its service project, further amplifying awareness and support. This partnership led to a donation from Tampa Electric, facilitating the assembly of over 300 filled duffel bags for distribution.
In addition to corporate contributions, the Sewing Group at Arise Church crafted and donated 25 handmade quilts, adding a personal touch to the efforts. Furthermore, the nonprofit Madi’s Movement provided multiple duffels to young adults transitioning out of foster care, ensuring that these individuals also receive essential support.
The success of Duffels of Dignity highlights the critical role of community involvement. Volunteers have tirelessly dedicated their time, while local businesses have generously donated supplies. Financial contributions have also played a pivotal role in expanding the program’s reach and effectiveness.
