Freeze Warnings Hit Eastern Inyo, Clark, and Mohave Counties

URGENT UPDATE: Residents of eastern Inyo County, northeastern Clark County, and southern/central Mohave County are facing an unexpected chill as the National Weather Service (NWS) issues Freeze Warnings effective until 8 AM PST today. Many awoke to temperatures plunging to as low as 34 degrees in areas including Shoshone, Tecopa, Mesquite, Moapa, and Kingman.

This sudden drop in temperature is just the beginning. The NWS reports that a persistent northwest flow aloft will bring continued cool conditions throughout the week, with sporadic north winds expected to complicate travel and outdoor activities.

Midweek forecasts predict an incoming system that could bring increased northerly winds, gusting between 15 to 25 mph. In the valleys, especially those oriented north-south, gusts could peak between 25 and 35 mph on Wednesday and Thursday. Residents are urged to prepare for windier conditions, which may hinder outdoor plans.

However, there’s a silver lining for those longing for warmer weather. By Friday, temperatures are projected to rise to levels described by the NWS as “above-normal.” The desert is set to warm up, providing relief from this cold snap.

For aviators, the forecast at Harry Reid International Airport indicates light winds following usual daily patterns, with a shift to the northwest expected by mid-morning tomorrow. Winds may increase to around 10 KT, with potential gusts beyond that. VFR conditions are anticipated, accompanied by mid- and high-level cloud coverage between 15–25 kft today.

The NWS encourages citizen weather observers to remain vigilant and report any significant weather developments. With conditions changing rapidly, staying informed is crucial for residents and travelers alike.

As this story develops, ensure to take precautions against the cold, particularly if you’re heading outdoors. More updates will follow as the situation evolves.
