Firefighters Battle Massive Blaze in Santa Cruz Woodshop, 2nd Alarm

URGENT UPDATE: A major structure fire erupted in a woodworking shop on Ingalls Street in Santa Cruz last night, prompting a swift response from local firefighters. The Santa Cruz Fire Department received emergency calls at approximately 10:45 PM and dispatched crews to the 400 block of Ingalls Street, where flames were actively consuming the 4,500-square-foot building.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a woodworking shop engulfed in flames, with fire extending to nearby trees and posing a serious threat to adjacent homes and businesses. The situation quickly escalated, leading to the incident being upgraded to a second-alarm fire.

Firefighters coordinated with multiple agencies, including the Scotts Valley Fire District, Central Fire District, Felton Fire Department, and local law enforcement to combat the blaze. Their combined efforts, along with assistance from bystanders, allowed crews to contain the fire primarily to the woodworking area and the loft above it, preventing further damage to surrounding structures.

The woodworking shop, located at 411 Ingalls Street, is part of a shared facility that includes two additional warehouses. The flames severely impacted the shop’s wooden frame and stucco interior, but thanks to the rapid response, the majority of the damage was confined to the original building. As of now, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters worked diligently through the night to ensure that the blaze was fully contained and posed no further risk to the community.

Residents nearby are urged to stay informed as updates become available. Fire officials are expected to release more information regarding the cause and extent of the damage in the coming hours.
