This marks a historic moment as it is the first time in 96 years that an officer from the El Monte Police Department has received this distinguished honor.

The award was presented by the Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County (POALAC), recognizing Rojas for his unwavering dedication to community engagement. Chief Jake Fisher praised Rojas, stating, “He has been instrumental in enhancing our relationships with schools, businesses, and residents, helping to move our community mission forward.”

Rojas has become a pivotal figure in El Monte, known for his proactive and compassionate policing style. His commitment to community building has contributed to fostering public trust and cooperation, with officials noting, “His presence and willingness to engage the community have significantly shaped a culture of compassion throughout El Monte.”

At the ceremony, Rojas was celebrated alongside Jane Ellis, a volunteer honored for her 18 years of service in the city’s Volunteers Caring and Patrolling Program (VCAP). The El Monte Police Department’s efforts were further highlighted by the recognition of the Monrovia Police Department, which received the Excellence in Community Policing (Team) award.
