URGENT UPDATE: The community of Santa Cruz is mourning the sudden passing of beloved local leader Sally Cooper, who died at the age of 71. Sally, a dedicated educator and youth soccer coach, was known for her unwavering commitment to her family and community, leaving a legacy that touched countless lives.
Born on November 4, 1953Soquel High School in 1971. It was here that she met her high school sweetheart, Kevin Cooper, with whom she shared an incredible 54 years of marriage.
Sally’s impact on the community was profound. She spent many years coaching youth soccer and working diligently for the Soquel School District, inspiring students and families alike. Her infectious energy and kindness made her a beloved figure, as she dedicated her life to uplifting those around her.
Sally is survived by her husband, Kevin, three sons—Chris, Brian, and Jake—a daughter, Amy, and five cherished grandchildren: Bradley, Troy, Logan, Kendall, and Kenzie. She also leaves behind her cherished cat, William, who was a source of comfort and companionship.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, located at 435 Monterey Ave, Capitola, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the SPCA in Sally’s honor, reflecting her lifelong love for animals and commitment to kindness.
As friends and family gather to remember Sally, her legacy of love and service will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
