URGENT UPDATE: Chicago businesses in the 17th and 25th districts are on high alert following a disturbing rise in daylight robberies that has left the community rattled. The Chicago Police Department (CPD) issued an urgent community alert after a series of armed robberies targeting local businesses has revealed a bold pattern of criminal activity.
In these brazen attacks, suspects pose as legitimate customers. As soon as the unsuspecting clerk opens the cash register, the offender seizes the moment to snatch cash before fleeing the scene. This alarming trend is not isolated; similar incidents have been reported multiple times over the past month.
The latest robberies unfolded on the 1600 block of North Pulaski Ave. on October 3 and again on October 23, alongside additional thefts on the 4700 block of West Belmont Ave. and the 3200 block of North Milwaukee Ave. on the same day. Authorities are now on the lookout for two African-American males, described as being between 5’09” and 6’03” tall and weighing between 220 and 300 lbs, who were last seen in a white van that may serve as their getaway vehicle.
In response to these events, the CPD is urging business owners to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. They stress the importance of having functioning surveillance systems to assist in their investigations and are advising against pursuing fleeing suspects. Instead, business owners should promptly relay any information to the police.
Witnesses are encouraged to share their contact details with shop proprietors for potential follow-up. While the police are increasing their visibility and response efforts in the affected areas, local business owners are also tightening security and implementing precautionary measures to protect their establishments.
“Be aware of this crime and alert nearby businesses” is not just a suggestion—it’s a call to action in maintaining the safety and security of Chicago’s neighborhoods,
a CPD spokesperson emphasized.
The community response has been one of resilience, as residents and business owners come together to foster a safer environment. With heightened awareness and improved preparation, many hope to deter further incidents and restore a sense of security to their neighborhoods.
As the situation develops, residents are encouraged to stay informed and proactive. The police continue to monitor the situation closely and are committed to restoring safety in the area. Stay tuned for further updates as this story unfolds.
