UPDATE: Carmel junior guard Anna Chilcutt has made headlines by setting a new record with over 100,000 shots attempted during the offseason, a staggering feat that underscores her dedication to the game. Just announced, this remarkable achievement not only showcases her skills on the court but also highlights her role as a beloved teammate through her baking talents.
Chilcutt, who averages 4.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assist this season, has transformed her game after a challenging sophomore year. Driven by a determination to improve following a disappointing loss to Libertyville in the Class 4A regional final, she committed to rigorous training, shooting between 300 to 400 three-pointers daily, often starting at 5:30 AM before school.
As the East Suburban Catholic Conference leader, Carmel, boasting a record of 12-4, 4-0, has greatly benefited from Chilcutt’s contributions. Coach Ben Berg praised her efforts, stating, “Anna has greatly improved in a lot of different areas. She put in a lot of hard work in the offseason. She’s playing great defense, rebounding, and shooting the ball really well.”
Chilcutt’s commitment to her craft saw her exceed the previous offseason record of 60,000 shots set by former guard Ashley Schlabowske. “Shooting and going to the gym became a routine for me,” Chilcutt explained. “I would count them and put them on a spreadsheet.”
Her teammates also recognize her hard work. Senior guard Josie Hartman remarked, “You can really tell how much she’s put in just by her confidence shooting the ball. Attempting 100,000 shots is insane, and you can tell how much it’s paid off.” Junior guard Grace Booher echoed this sentiment, stating, “No one on the team has put in more extra work than Anna.”
Beyond her prowess on the court, Chilcutt has also established herself as a creative force off the court, launching her own cookie company. “I like creativity,” she said, revealing she had numerous orders in December. Her homemade banana bread bars have become a favorite among teammates, who eagerly await her baked goods at every game.
This blend of athleticism and creativity makes Anna Chilcutt a standout both on and off the court. As she continues to break records and contribute to her team, fans are eager to see how her hard work translates into the remainder of the season.
Stay tuned for further updates as Carmel’s promising season unfolds and Anna Chilcutt continues to make waves in both basketball and baking.
