Bulldogs Dominate Vassar Open Invitational, Start Season Strong

URGENT UPDATE: The Yale Bulldogs men’s fencing team kicked off the season with a powerful performance at the Vassar Open Invitational, winning all five of their matches. The event took place last weekend, marking a **strong start** for the team, which finished with a remarkable **record of 21-6** against Drew University and Stevens College, both matches ending in a decisive victory.

The Bulldogs did not stop there. They defeated Lafayette College **19-8**, then took down Johns Hopkins University with an **18-9** scoreline, finishing the day with another **19-8** victory against Sacred Heart University. Captain Jordan Silberzweig ’27 expressed enthusiasm in an email, stating, “After months of preparation, we came in hungry to compete at a high level.”

Last season, the Bulldogs showcased their prowess with an impressive **18-7 record**, remaining undefeated at the Vassar Invitational. They also featured **three returning NCAA Championship qualifiers**: Tony Whelan ’26, Silberzweig, and Castor Kao ’28, who is currently ranked sixth in the nation in foil competition.
