Bugatti Ends W-16 Legacy with Final €4 Million Bolide Delivery

BREAKING: Bugatti has officially wrapped up production of its final W-16 track car, the Bolide, with the last unit delivered to its owner today in Molsheim, France. This marks a significant moment for the iconic automotive brand as it concludes a historic chapter in high-performance engineering.

The final Bolide, which sold for a staggering €4 million, is part of an exclusive series of just 40 units, all of which are now accounted for. This final vehicle was picked up directly from Bugatti’s factory by a dedicated collector, known for his impressive Bugatti garage that includes a classic Type 35 and a Veyron Grand Sport. The Bolide features a striking Black Blue and Special Blue Lyonnais exterior with a luxurious Lake Blue Alcantara interior, showcasing the brand’s signature craftsmanship.

As Bugatti ceases Bolide production, attention turns to the Mistral, the last model to feature the legendary W-16 engine, which has powered Bugatti cars since the Veyron’s debut 20 years ago. The Mistral is limited to just 99 units, and deliveries began in February 2023. This roadster is set to be the fastest roofless car ever made, ensuring a final flourish for the W-16 before it transitions into automotive history.

Notably, British engineering firm Lanzante is already working on modifications to help owners convert their Bolides for road legality, potentially extending the life of this extraordinary vehicle beyond the track.

Looking ahead, Bugatti is preparing to launch a new era with the introduction of a V-16 engine for the upcoming Tourbillon model, slated for deliveries starting next year. This new engine will feature a naturally aspirated setup, moving away from the quad-turbocharged design and boasting a larger displacement of 8.4 liters versus the W-16’s 8.0 liters. This change is part of Bugatti’s commitment to meet stricter emissions regulations while continuing to push the boundaries of performance.

Despite the end of the W-16, Bugatti plans to maintain a connection to its heritage through the new Programme Solitaire, which will create one-off commissions like the Brouillard. This initiative mirrors strategies employed by brands like Pagani, aiming to rejuvenate older models with modern styling and technology.

As Bugatti closes the chapter on the W-16, the legacy of the Veyron and Chiron may live on, potentially becoming timeless classics akin to the legendary Zonda. With Bugatti’s continuous innovation, the automotive world will be watching closely for what comes next.
