URGENT UPDATE: A suspected arsonist has been arrested following a fire at an apartment complex in Redwood City early Saturday morning. The incident occurred on the 1300 block of Marshall Street at 7:35 a.m., prompting a swift response from firefighters and police.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 35-year-old Eliaser Hernandez-Valadez, who allegedly returned to the scene after the fire was extinguished. According to the Redwood City Police Department, investigators believe the fire may have been intentionally set.
“Investigators from the police and fire department learned the fire may have been intentionally set and a suspect was identified,”
stated the Redwood City PD.
All residents were safely evacuated, and thankfully, there were no reported injuries. However, the fire caused damage to three apartment units, displacing three individuals. The victims are currently receiving assistance from the American Red Cross as they navigate this challenging situation.
Hernandez-Valadez was arrested later that evening and is now booked in the San Mateo County Jail on charges of arson to an inhabited dwelling, reckless burning, and violation of probation.
