UPDATE: San Francisco Police have arrested a 68-year-old man, identified as Stephen Smith from Daly City, in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on July 15, 2023. This swift apprehension showcases the effectiveness of the city’s Real Time Investigation Center (RTIC) in tackling crime.

Just last Saturday, officers responded to a distress call from a Mission Street business where Smith allegedly brandished a weapon concealed in a bag and demanded cash. After successfully robbing the establishment, he confronted the victim outside, demanding more money before fleeing with her cell phone.

Thanks to the advanced tracking capabilities of the RTIC, police were able to monitor Smith’s vehicle as it moved north on 7th Street towards Mission Street. Officers quickly arrived on the scene and arrested him without incident, recovering the stolen property.

While this arrest provides a sense of relief, the San Francisco Police Department emphasizes that the investigation is far from over. They are urging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward. Community members are encouraged to contact the SFPD at 1-415-575-4444 or submit anonymous tips via Text-A-Tip to TIP411, starting messages with SFPD.

This incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and technological support in crime prevention. As investigations continue, the SFPD remains committed to keeping the streets of San Francisco safe. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
