Robinson High School’s boys basketball team showcased their strength, defeating the West Rowan Falcons 88-53 on March 12, 2024, in a South Piedmont Conference matchup. With this victory, Robinson remains unbeaten in the conference, improving their record to 10-1 and 3-0 in league play. The defeat marked the first conference loss for West Rowan, who now stands at 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the SPC.
The Bulldogs demonstrated impressive offensive prowess, with twelve players contributing to the score. Four players reached double figures, led by Jamell Reid, who scored 15 points. Robinson’s effective strategy focused on aggressive drives to the basket, often bypassing the three-point line in favor of layups and second-chance points from offensive rebounds. The team shot an impressive 68 percent, hitting 27 of 40 attempts from the field.
West Rowan faced challenges throughout the game, particularly due to missing key players. Point guard Ja’mih Tucker and post player Josiah Young were unavailable, impacting the Falcons’ performance. Young, known for his shot-blocking abilities, was sidelined temporarily due to illness, while Tucker’s absence is currently indefinite, according to head coach Dadrian Cuthbertson. Despite being down by 11 points at halftime, the Falcons remained competitive for three quarters before Robinson pulled away decisively in the final period.
As the game progressed, Robinson’s depth and speed proved to be significant advantages. Alongside Reid’s contributions, Harlee and Speller added 11 and 10 points, respectively, while several other players contributed to the scoring effort. West Rowan’s scoring was led by Luke Bame, who finished with 11 points, followed by teammates Graham with 9 points and Donaldson with 8.
Looking ahead, Robinson is set for a crucial matchup against fellow contender Salisbury on March 15, 2024. This upcoming game will be pivotal in determining the frontrunner in the South Piedmont Conference standings, with both teams aiming to solidify their positions.
The official statistics for West Rowan will be updated once confirmed, providing a clearer picture of the contributions from all players. With the season progressing, both teams will be focused on enhancing their performance as they head deeper into the conference schedule.
