New York Rangers Celebrate Third Straight Win Against Kraken

The New York Rangers secured their third consecutive win with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over the Seattle Kraken on November 2, 2025. This marks the first time the Rangers have achieved three straight wins since November 14-19 of the previous season. The decisive goal came from Will Cuylle, who scored 2:42 into the extra period at Climate Pledge Arena.

Coach Mike Sullivan praised his team’s resilience, especially after losing their initial game of this road trip to Calgary. “I give the guys a lot of credit. This is not an easy trip to come out here,” he stated. “We lose the first game in Calgary, and to rebound the way we did speaks volumes about the character of the guys. You can feel the energy around the team.”

The Rangers currently hold a record of 6-5-2 and have shown a marked improvement on the road, going 6-1-1 away from home. Following a tough 5-1 loss to Calgary, they rebounded by winning three consecutive games in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Seattle. Despite struggling at home, where they have yet to secure a win, their road performances have been commendable.

Defensive Dominance and Timely Scoring

The Rangers’ success can be attributed to their commitment to a solid defensive structure under Sullivan. During the game against the Kraken, they limited the home team to just 13 shots on goal, a statistic that ties for the third-fewest allowed since the NHL began tracking this data in 1959-60. Cuylle remarked, “I felt like we were dominating the game for the most part.”

While Sullivan acknowledged the need for the team to elevate their offensive performance, he noted that they have managed to secure timely goals. Cuylle played a crucial role, scoring the game-winner after initially having a goal overturned in the second period. He described the moment, stating, “It was a great play by Millsy [J.T. Miller], just keeping his speed through the neutral zone.”

Cuylle’s contributions have been significant, especially considering he had only one point in his first ten games. He has now recorded points in all four games of this trip, helping to drive the team’s latest successes.

Player Highlights and Future Prospects

Cuylle’s line with Alexis Lafrenière and rookie Noah Laba proved particularly effective in Seattle, showcasing speed and cohesion. Laba, who scored his second career goal during the match, has been a standout performer, ranking in the top percentile for skating speed among NHL players. “That’s one of my big assets, and I just try to use it to my advantage,” Laba explained.

Sullivan’s confidence in Laba has allowed the Rangers to strengthen their top line, which includes accomplished forwards J.T. Miller, Artemi Panarin, and Mika Zibanejad. Although this trio did not score against the Kraken, their presence on the ice was felt, as evidenced by their performance metrics.

While the Rangers struggled on special teams, failing to convert on three power-play opportunities and extending their drought to ten consecutive attempts, Sullivan expressed optimism. “They had so many looks,” he remarked, underscoring the potential for improvement in this area.

The Rangers’ defense, including players like Vladislav Gavrikov, has exceeded expectations this season. Gavrikov scored his first goal for the team during the match, further solidifying his place in the lineup.

Looking ahead, the Rangers will aim to secure their first home victory on November 7 when the Carolina Hurricanes visit Madison Square Garden. The team’s recent performances suggest they are regaining their competitive edge, which could lead to a successful season if they maintain their current momentum.
