The wrestling team from Bemidji High School achieved a remarkable performance at the Orono Invitational on March 2, 2024, with five of its six competing wrestlers winning their individual brackets. This success contributed to the team securing third place overall, amassing a total of 343.5 points in the competition.
Leading the charge, Ozzie Hanks claimed first place in the 107-pound category, finishing with an impressive record of 4-0. Also unbeaten was Owen Bieber, who triumphed in all three of his matches at 114 pounds. Notable victories continued with Gabe Morin and Nick Strand, who excelled at 133 and 139 pounds, respectively. Morin concluded his matches with a record of 3-0, including two technical falls and a bye, while Strand went 4-0, featuring two pins and another technical fall victory.
Rounding out the first-place finishes was Nehemiah Schwinghammer, who dominated at 285 pounds with a perfect record of 3-0. In addition to the champions, Jeremy Linn also made his mark, securing fourth place in the 152-pound category.
The overall team results showcased a competitive atmosphere, with New Prague leading the rankings at 515 points and Maple Grove following closely with 357 points. The full team standings were as follows:
