The New York Giants have received a significant boost in their efforts to secure former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh following the Miami Dolphins’ recent appointment of Jon-Eric Sullivan as their new general manager. Harbaugh, who is 63 years old, ended his tenure with the Ravens after a disappointing 2025/26 season, which concluded with Baltimore failing to reach the NFL playoffs despite a “win, and you’re in” scenario against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After his departure, Harbaugh’s prospects for future employment appear promising, as multiple NFL teams are keen to acquire his coaching expertise. The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly considering Harbaugh for their head coach position following the dismissal of Pete Carroll. Other teams in the market for a new head coach include the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, Dolphins, and, of course, the Ravens.
Harbaugh has set forth specific requirements for any potential new role. According to ESPN, he demands an annual salary of $20 million, an additional $10 million for his coaching staff, complete authority over roster decisions, and the ability to select his own general manager. Previously, he earned $17 million per season with the Ravens, who still owe him approximately $34 million under the terms of his contract. This financial obligation may limit his options, particularly now that the Dolphins have appointed Sullivan as their general manager.
Miami’s current roster requires substantial work, which could deter Harbaugh from considering a position there. In contrast, the Giants present an appealing opportunity, boasting a young and promising core that includes quarterback Jaxson Dart, running back Cam Skattebo, wide receiver Malik Nabers, linebacker Abdul Carter, and the No. 5 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo highlighted the differences between the Giants and Dolphins, suggesting that the Giants will benefit from Sullivan’s appointment. He noted, “If you’re the Giants, you got to be high-fiving when this John Eric Sullivan news hits today.” Garafolo emphasized that the Giants possess a young quarterback and a cohesive roster, which is an advantage over Miami’s current situation.
As the coaching carousel spins in the NFL, the Giants are positioned favorably in their pursuit of Harbaugh. With the Dolphins now having a new general manager, it opens the door for rival franchises, including the Giants, to capitalize on the opportunity to secure a highly regarded coach.
