Samajae Govan Leads Dutch Fork to Region Championship
Samajae Govan of Dutch Fork played a crucial role in helping the Silver Foxes clinch their second consecutive region title. The team concluded the regular season with an impressive record of 22-3 overall and 9-1 in region play. Govan’s performance was pivotal, as he averaged 17 points, three rebounds, four assists, and four steals per game.
In a decisive match against River Bluff, Govan scored 16 points and dished out four assists, securing the region championship. The Silver Foxes capped their regular season by avenging an earlier loss to Irmo, defeating the Yellow Jackets 48-38. Govan led the charge in that game, contributing a team-high 23 points along with three steals.
The Silver Foxes earned a bye in the first round of the postseason and are set to face the winner of the matchup between Mauldin and Spring Valley on February 21, 2024. As they progress, the team will continue to rely on Govan’s skills to navigate the challenges ahead.
Aneya Britt Powers Gray Collegiate to Strong Finish
At Gray Collegiate Academy, Aneya Britt had an outstanding week, leading the War Eagles to secure the No. 2 position in their region. The team achieved dominant victories against Aiken and Gilbert, showcasing Britt’s exceptional talent on the court.
In a staggering performance against Aiken, Gray Collegiate triumphed 63-5, with Britt amassing 28 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals. Following that, she contributed significantly again in a 60-12 win over Gilbert, where she recorded 19 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. The War Eagles concluded the regular season with a record of 20-5 overall and 12-2 in region games.
The team continued its playoff success by winning its first-round matchup against Brookland-Cayce on Monday and is set to compete against Wilson in the next round on Friday. Britt’s contributions will be vital as Gray Collegiate aims to maintain its momentum and push deeper into the playoffs.
