Colorado State Falls to Boise State, 79-73, in Tight Contest

The Colorado State Rams men’s basketball team suffered a narrow defeat against the Boise State Broncos, losing 79-73 in a closely contested game on January 12, 2024, in Boise, Idaho. This setback marked the Rams’ fifth loss in their last seven games, bringing their overall record to 11-7 and their Mountain West Conference record to 2-5.

After trailing 39-30 at halftime, Colorado State found itself in a challenging position, down by as many as 12 points shortly after the start of the second half. However, the Rams mounted a comeback, taking their first lead of the game when Brandon Rechsteiner hit a crucial three-pointer, putting CSU ahead 55-54 with just over nine minutes remaining.

Boise State quickly responded, regaining control of the game. With the score tied at 57, the Broncos launched a decisive 13-2 run, extending their lead to 70-59 with only 3:22 left on the clock. Despite a late push by the Rams, who narrowed the gap to five points with a minute to go, they could not overcome the Broncos’ advantage.

Two players led Colorado State’s scoring effort, with Rashaan Mbemba and Rechsteiner each contributing 17 points. Mbemba was making his second start since returning from injury, while Kyle Jorgensen made his return to the court after missing six games, adding three points to the team’s total. Josh Pascarelli also made a notable contribution, scoring 10 points.

The Rams showcased an impressive shooting performance, hitting 48.9% of their shots and making 14 of 25 attempts from beyond the arc. Additionally, they converted 13 of 14 free throw attempts. Despite their offensive efficiency, Colorado State’s 15 turnovers proved costly, while Boise State edged them in rebounding, 28-26.
