In a thrilling display of athleticism, Colby High School emerged victorious at the 4A Girls Super Regional wrestling tournament held at Augusta High School on February 17-18, 2024. The competition featured over 30 teams, with the top eight wrestlers in each weight class qualifying for the state tournament scheduled for February 27-28 in Salina.
Colby showcased a remarkable performance, particularly on the second day of the tournament, overcoming a narrow deficit to clinch the title with a total of 145 points, edging out Chapman, which finished with 144 points. The Lady Eagles not only secured the championship but also qualified eight wrestlers for the upcoming state competition.
Scott City made history by tying for sixth place, qualifying a school-record five wrestlers. Among their standout performers was Haylie McDaniel, who claimed the regional championship in the 110-pound weight class. Holcomb finished in twelfth place with three state qualifiers, including regional runner-up Amyah Caro, while Ulysses placed thirteenth and secured four wrestlers, all of whom finished in sixth place.
The tournament recognized significant individual achievements as well. Andrew Flanagin, head coach of Colby, was named the Regional Coach of the Year, and Morgan Hills earned the title of Regional Wrestler of the Year after winning the 135-pound weight class.

Scott City’s Haylie McDaniel dominated the 110-pound division, winning by decision against Chloe Rott from Clay Center. In the 135-pound category, Colby’s Morgan Hills showcased her strength with a fall over Tristin Compton from Hoisington.
The tournament also featured impressive performances in other weight classes, including Joy Rhines from Chapman, who won the 170-pound championship by technical fall against Dayanara Jimenez of Scott City.
