Edward Holland Jr. Remembered for His Service and Family Legacy

Edward Holland Jr., a veteran of the US military and a devoted family man, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 98. Born in Liberty Hill, Texas, in 1927 to Virgie Harris Holland and Edward Holland, he led a life marked by service and dedication.

At the age of 16, in 1943, Edward enlisted in the US Navy, serving on a floating drydock in the South Pacific until the end of World War II in 1945. Upon returning to San Antonio, Texas, he completed his high school education and continued his military career by joining the US Air Force in 1947. His first posting was at the Pentagon, where he worked in data processing. It was during this time that he met his first wife, Mary Anna Jane Hunter. The couple went on to have three children: Jan Creed, Beth Ann Burdick, and Bruce Holland.

Edward had a distinguished military career, culminating in his retirement in 1964. Following his service, he transitioned to a career as a database administrator, working in California and at Cornell University in New York. His commitment to community service was evident in his involvement with the Masons and the Eastern Star. He joined Los Angeles Harbor Lodge No. 332 and was a member for over 50 years, serving as Worshipful Master in 1977 and as Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star Chapter nine times.

After the passing of his first wife, Mary, in 1982, Edward met his second wife, Laurel, at an Eastern Star meeting. They married in 1984, enjoying a fulfilling retirement together for 41 years. At the time of his passing, Edward was the patriarch of a five-generation family.

Edward is survived by his wife Laurel, daughters Jan Creed and Beth Ann Burdick, and son Bruce. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Charissa Franklin (husband Seth), Kyle Holland, Joel Holland, Courtney Burdick, and Bryanna Burdick. His great-grandchildren include Kaylee Holland, Kyler Holland, Conner Franklin, Ethan Kline, Oliver Austin, Anthony Holland (wife Alexis), and Seth Holland. Additionally, he is survived by two great-great-grandchildren, Anthony Holland Junior and Addlyn Holland.

Services to celebrate Edward’s life will be held at Green Hills Mortuary, located at 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Visitation is scheduled for October 23, 2025, from 16:00 to 20:00, with the funeral service taking place the following day at 11:30 on October 24, 2025. Edward Holland Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family and service to his country.
