Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ On-Air Disagreement Sparks Laughter

During the March 13, 2024 episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark,” hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos engaged in a lively on-air exchange that captured viewers’ attention. The couple’s playful bickering began when Ripa suggested they consider an “airport divorce,” a humorous term for couples who part ways at the airport only to reunite before boarding their flight.
Ripa elaborated on their contrasting travel habits, playfully implying that Consuelos is far more uptight about flying. She exaggeratedly stated that he prefers to arrive at the airport “4 to 16 hours” early, a claim Consuelos quickly refuted, asserting that he typically arrives just an hour and a half before departure, which is standard practice for many travelers.
The atmosphere became more charged when Ripa mentioned that Consuelos gets annoyed when fans approach them in airports. “I don’t say that, don’t put that out there,” he responded, visibly displeased. “I’m very nice to people. That’s not cool.”
The playful tension escalated as Consuelos expressed his frustration at Ripa for sharing personal anecdotes he found uncomfortable. He candidly told her he was upset for what he perceived as her throwing him “under the bus” with her comments. Ripa, not backing down, recounted an incident where Consuelos became irritated while they waited in line at the airport. His frustration stemmed from a lapse in his TSA PreCheck status, which led them to the standard check-in line.
Consuelos maintained that the disagreement was less about the line and more about Ripa not following his preferred route through security. “I’d like to hear more about this airport divorce,” he quipped, to which Ripa responded, “Well, we’re definitely getting one now.”
The couple continued to exchange light-hearted jabs over their differing views on car cleanliness. Ripa admitted she hardly ever drives and believes the person who dirties the car should clean it. In response, Consuelos playfully teased her about her habit of resting her bare feet on the dashboard while she is a passenger. “I’m staring at your toe prints when you’re not there,” he remarked, adding that he finds toe prints on the windshield.
Reflecting on their spirited interaction, Consuelos noted, “We’re having a day today.” The couple, married for 29 years, has a history of discussing their disagreements openly. In a March 2023 interview with People magazine, Ripa acknowledged that they sometimes let small issues come between them but ultimately work through their differences.
“We’re not afraid to go there,” she explained. “We have the confidence in our marriage that no matter what we discuss, I don’t mind being the villain in the argument, nor does Mark. Neither one of us needs to be the hero.”
Their candidness about their relationship and ability to share both conflicts and laughter continues to resonate with their audience, showcasing the strength of their bond.
