Byron Donalds Calls for Unity Among Conservatives at AmericaFest

Rep. Byron Donalds, a Republican congressman from Florida and a candidate for governor in 2026, addressed the future of the conservative movement during his remarks at AmericaFest. Following a challenging electoral year for the GOP in 2025, he emphasized the importance of focusing on their mission and delivering results to the American public.

During an interview with Fox News Digital, Donalds stated that overcoming recent setbacks requires dedication and a commitment to implementing conservative values. He remarked, “It’s about what you actually get done,” referring to the difficulties faced by the Republican-majority legislature in passing key components of their agenda. He underscored the necessity of focusing on the mission ahead and ensuring that voters are motivated to participate in upcoming elections.

In light of recent electoral defeats, including significant losses in traditionally Republican areas like Miami, Donalds cautioned that conservatives cannot become complacent. He acknowledged the enthusiasm of Democratic voters in races across states like Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Miami, particularly noting that the latter’s election occurred during the holiday season. He stated, “We have to meet that motivation knowing that when our policies are in place, it’s better for the American people.”

Lessons from Recent Elections

Regarding the Miami mayoral race, which saw the Democrats reclaim the position for the first time in over two decades, Donalds pointed out the challenges of low voter turnout during a runoff election held just before Christmas. He emphasized the importance of effective campaigning strategies that prioritize messaging and direct engagement with voters. “It is about messaging. It is about direct contact with the candidate,” he reiterated.

As he reflected on the thousands of young people attending AmericaFest, Donalds expressed optimism about the future of the conservative movement. He noted the significant turnout of high school and college students, which he believes is a testament to the work of Charlie Kirk and the event’s organizers. He remarked, “It’s all really about the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk. Now the responsibility is making sure we keep that movement going on.”

Focus on Winning Elections

In his vision for the future, Donalds highlighted the need for unity among conservatives to achieve electoral success. He cautioned against “pettiness and silly divisions” that could undermine their efforts. “The mission is winning elections. You win elections in order to pass your agenda and institutionalize your agenda,” he stated.

As a front-runner in the race for governor, Donalds acknowledged the potential for other prominent Florida Republicans to enter the contest. He expressed confidence in his campaign, citing support from former President Donald Trump, Senator Rick Scott, and several influential figures within the party. “We’re very blessed to be in the position that I’m in right now,” he said, adding that the focus post-primaries will shift to party unity and victory.

As the Republican Party navigates the challenges ahead, Donalds’ call to action resonates with many within the conservative movement. His emphasis on hard work, clear messaging, and voter engagement may serve as a crucial framework for the GOP as it prepares for the upcoming electoral cycle.
