Saginaw Nonprofit Introduces Paid Music Lessons for Adults

Major Chords for Minors, a Saginaw-based nonprofit, has announced the introduction of a paid tier for music lessons aimed at adults, while continuing its long-standing tradition of offering free instruction for students. The organization revealed this development on March 25, 2024, as part of its ongoing commitment to expand access to music education within the community.

The new initiative will charge $20 for half-hour lessons, which is below the national average for private music instruction. This paid option aims to generate additional revenue to support the nonprofit’s mission of removing barriers to music education. Free lessons for students in grades three through twelve will remain unchanged, ensuring that the organization continues to serve younger learners.

Expanding Opportunities Through Paid Lessons

The introduction of the paid tier is designed to enhance the organization’s offerings and explore new programming possibilities. These include workshops, lessons outside of the studio, expanded instrument offerings, and the addition of more educators. Amy Petty, the Executive Director of Major Chords for Minors, expressed her enthusiasm about this new chapter in the nonprofit’s journey.

“This is a huge chapter turn,” Petty stated. “We are in our 15th year, and there’s something very audacious about remaining in the community as long as we have. We can and should share what we do with more people, and by offering this paid tier, we are opening the door to bringing in more of the community to what Major Chords can provide in music education, community, and mentorship.”

The paid lessons will be available to adults aged 18 and older, marking a significant demographic expansion for the organization. All adult classes will follow the paid model, providing an opportunity for adults to either begin or continue their musical education.

New Donation Platform Supports Growth

In addition to the paid lessons, Major Chords for Minors has also launched a new monthly donation initiative titled Give. Groove. Repeat. This platform aims to support the nonprofit’s growth and assist aspiring musicians in the community.
