Paskenta Mad River Brewery recently gained recognition from Food and Beverage Magazine, earning a spot on the winners list for 2025 with its Canyon of Dreams Double India Pale Ale. This ale, part of the California State Park Series, draws inspiration from the vibrant beauty of the ancient Redwoods. Previously, it was awarded the title of best Imperial IPA in California at the 2023 United States Beer Tasting Championship.

General Manager Linda Cooley expressed pride in this recognition, stating, “This recognition not only celebrates our commitment to the planet but also everything we love about our craft. In another development, the North Coast Chapter of Business Networking International (BNI) announced an after-hours mixer to mark International Networking Week. Scheduled for February 3 from 17:30 to 19:00 at the Eureka Woman’s Club, this free event invites business owners and professionals across Humboldt County to connect and collaborate.

Founded in 2007, International Networking Week aims to celebrate the value of referral networking among business professionals. The North Coast Chapter, which has grown to include 40 members from diverse industries, reported generating $3.48 million in closed business last year, showcasing the impact of networking in the region.

Compass Community Credit Union Marks 75 Years of Service

Compass Community Credit Union is commemorating a significant milestone this month as it celebrates its 75th anniversary. Established in 1951 as a credit union for California State employees, it originally served professors and staff at Humboldt State College (now Cal Poly Humboldt).

The organization has undergone several changes, including a merger with the Federal Employees of Humboldt County Credit Union in 1979. Following an expansion of its membership base in late 2017, it rebranded to Compass Community Credit Union in January 2018. President and CEO Ray Litchfield stated, “We are proud to celebrate our 75th anniversary and extend our sincere gratitude to our members in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties for helping us reach this meaningful milestone.” The credit union currently serves over 6,300 members and will offer various promotions throughout the year in honor of this anniversary.

New Leadership at Redwood Capital Bank

Additionally, Redwood Capital Bank announced the appointment of Jennifer P. Budwig as a member of the Boards of Directors for both Redwood Capital Bancorp and Redwood Capital Bank. Budwig has been with Redwood Capital since 2006, initially serving as a vice president and commercial loan officer before becoming chief operating officer in November 2024.
