Pasadena Community Unites for Thanksgiving Feast on Nov. 26

Union Station Homeless Services (USHS) hosted a Thanksgiving meal event on November 26, 2025, at its Adult Center located at 412 S Raymond Blvd in Pasadena, California. This initiative provided both on-site and to-go meals to the community, embodying a spirit of compassion and goodwill during the holiday season. The event was part of a broader effort throughout the San Gabriel Valley to support those in need, particularly as many face increasing food insecurity.

A variety of volunteers contributed to the success of the event, including notable figures such as actress Adina Porter, who participated on behalf of Feeding America, a hunger relief organization. Porter, who recently lost her home in the Eaton fire, expressed her gratitude for the support systems in place, stating, “I wish we didn’t live in a world where there was so much food insecurity, but I’m beyond grateful that there’s an organization like Feeding America that is fulfilling a need.”

The meals served included traditional Thanksgiving fare, prepared by USHS Food Program staff and volunteers. Guests were not required to provide any information to receive a meal, and many chose to take portions home to share with family and friends. USHS has a longstanding tradition of ensuring that anyone who arrives for a meal is welcomed, having served the community for over 50 years.

Laura Friedman, California State Assemblymember representing Burbank, also volunteered at the event. She highlighted the importance of community involvement, saying, “I am thankful for all the volunteers and staff that have helped make this year’s meal service a success, as well as all the families that come out to celebrate with us.”

Several organizations stepped up to support the Thanksgiving event. Musician David Lee Roth made significant donations to USHS, while the Green Foundation contributed $25,000 and Bigo Live donated $15,000 to aid in meal distribution. Such contributions are vital, especially considering the financial strain many families face due to rising grocery prices and cuts to federal food benefits.

The Thanksgiving gathering also included community members who enjoyed a hot meal together. Among those serving were Pasadena Councilmember Jessica Rivas and Pasadena Housing Director Jim Wong, who assisted in various capacities throughout the day.

In addition to the meal service, Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles County Supervisor, led her eighth annual Day of Giving the day before Thanksgiving. Barger and her staff volunteered at a construction site in Altadena, helping a survivor of the Eaton fire rebuild their home. This initiative included serving meals to seniors and supporting food distribution events across the Fifth District.

As the event concluded, the sense of community and shared purpose was palpable. Volunteers and attendees alike were reminded of the power of coming together to support one another, particularly during challenging times.

This Thanksgiving event exemplifies the ongoing commitment of local organizations and community members to uplift those in need, reinforcing that compassion and kindness remain at the heart of the holiday spirit.
