The San Francisco Giants announced that third baseman Matt Chapman is their only finalist for the prestigious Silver Slugger award, which recognizes the best offensive players in Major League Baseball. This announcement comes as the Giants aim to celebrate their standout performances from the past season, highlighting Chapman’s significant contributions to the team.

Chapman, 32, made his mark this season with a batting average of .231, alongside 21 home runs and a .770 OPS, which translates to a 120 OPS+. This recognition marks his second consecutive year as a finalist for the award. Despite being a five-time Gold Glove winner and a two-time Platinum Glove recipient, Chapman has yet to secure the top offensive accolade for his position.

The Silver Slugger award is determined through votes from managers and coaches across the National League, with each team providing four ballots. Chapman is among a competitive field of finalists at third base, which includes Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres, Max Muncy from the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Austin Riley of the Atlanta Braves.

The last player from the Giants to win a Silver Slugger was Buster Posey in 2021, highlighting the rarity of this achievement within the organization. The Louisville Slugger company announced the finalists on Wednesday, with the winner set to be revealed on November 6.

While other players like Willy Adames and Rafael Devers have also made significant impacts with their offensive performances this season, Chapman stands out as the sole finalist for the Giants. Adames became the first player in a Giants uniform to hit 30 home runs since Barry Bonds, demonstrating the team’s evolving offensive power.

As the voting concludes and anticipation builds, Giants fans will be eager to see if Chapman can finally capture the Silver Slugger award, affirming his status as one of the league’s elite hitters. The recognition not only reflects Chapman’s personal achievements but also the broader efforts of the Giants to establish a more formidable lineup.
