Mary Margaret Putanko, Longtime Uniontown Resident, Passes Away

Mary Margaret “Peggy” Putanko, aged 87, passed away on October 8, 2025, in her home located in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Previously a resident of Uniontown, she was remembered as a devoted individual who impacted her family and community.

Born on June 1, 1938, in Edenborn, Peggy was the daughter of the late Stephen and Margaret Havrilla Plisko. Her childhood was shaped by the values instilled by her parents, which she carried into her adult life.

Peggy was married to her husband, Joseph Putanko, for 56 years until his passing in June 2017. Their partnership was defined by mutual love and support, a testament to their long-lasting commitment to one another. In addition to her husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Plisko, and her cherished dog, Daisy.

She is survived by her daughter, Jodie Putanko Cales, and son-in-law, Kevin Cales, along with her granddaughter, Madison Cales. Peggy’s family also includes her siblings: Elaine (the late Richard) Chury, Lanny (Elaine) Plisko, Marlene Guappone, Judi (Edward) Kolencik, and Kenny (Jani) Plisko. Her sister-in-law, Vanessa Plisko, and several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Private services will be conducted to honor Peggy’s memory, allowing her loved ones to celebrate her life in a personal setting. The family requests privacy during this time of mourning.
