Macomb County Man Discovers $1 Million Lottery Win

A man from Macomb County, Michigan, recently discovered he had won a staggering $1 million on a lottery ticket, surpassing his initial belief that he had only won $5,000. The 60-year-old, who has chosen to remain anonymous, purchased the winning King Cashword instant ticket from a self-serve machine at Kroger, located at 16450 25 Mile Road.

Upon scratching off the ticket, the man initially thought he had won $5,000. However, a closer inspection revealed that he had uncovered ten words, leading to the much larger prize. “Winning feels like a huge blessing and means I can retire earlier than I planned,” he shared with the Michigan Lottery.

The ticket, which cost $20, was part of the King Cashword game that launched in June 2025. This game features three top prizes of $1 million, with two of those prizes still unclaimed.

After claiming his prize, the lucky winner opted for a one-time lump sum payment of approximately $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount. He indicated that he plans to save the winnings for his retirement, marking a significant financial milestone.

This unexpected windfall highlights the excitement and potential life-changing impact of participating in the lottery, particularly for those who play responsibly. The Michigan Lottery continues to offer various games, providing players with opportunities to win substantial prizes while contributing to state programs.
