The Logan Heights Community Development Corporation is hosting its annual holiday toy drive to support local children in need. The initiative, known as Toys for Kids, aims to collect new, unwrapped toys for approximately 570 children aged from infancy to 17 years old. This year, the nonprofit has capped registration at 200 families due to a decline in donations, filling spots within just 12 hours of opening registration.
Last year, community support enabled the organization to serve nearly 1,000 families, despite facing a significant shortfall in toy donations. With the current needs still pressing, the organization is once again reaching out to the public for assistance. Donations are particularly needed for children aged 6 to 17, who are often overlooked in holiday giving.
Individuals wishing to contribute can drop off toys at the Logan Heights CDC, located at 3040 Imperial Ave, daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until December 4. Alternatively, donations can also be made online through the organization’s website at onecau.se/_e8bdm1.
The distribution of toys for registered families will take place during the nonprofit’s annual community celebration, Light Up Logan, on December 5. This festive event will run from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Soap Factory, located at 2995 Commercial St. The celebration will feature a variety of activities, including holiday crafts for children, shopping opportunities with local vendors, and the traditional tree lighting ceremony.
In addition to these activities, families will enjoy the presence of Santa Claus, live music, and even real snow, creating a festive atmosphere for all attendees. For more information about the toy drive and the upcoming event, visit loganheightscdc.org.
The Logan Heights Community Development Corporation continues to rely on community engagement to provide support during the holiday season, emphasizing the importance of generosity in ensuring that every child has the opportunity to experience the joy of receiving gifts during this special time of year.
