Local Photographer Launches Studio Onyx for Creative Community

Sarah Williams, a photographer based in Wells, has opened a new creative space, Studio Onyx, located on the second floor of the recently renovated The Broadway building. Officially launched in January 2025, the studio aims to serve not only Williams’ own photography needs but also those of other photographers, content creators, and artists in the area.

Williams, who initially founded her photography business, Sarah Marschall Photo, in 2020, specializes in various genres including wedding photography, senior portraits, and lifestyle shoots. Her journey into photography began as a hobby and has since transformed into a full-fledged business. Prior to establishing Studio Onyx, Williams encountered challenges in finding suitable studio spaces available for rent in her locality.

The idea of opening her own studio was a long-term goal for Williams. It wasn’t until she found out about the available space in The Broadway that she recognized the opportunity to bring her vision to life. “I’ve always thought it was stunning,” she remarked about the building. Her admiration for The Broadway grew when she dined at the restaurant, Cento, and learned about the rental spaces above it. “It’s a great location for everyone that’s convenient, and I love the building,” she added.

Setting up the studio came with its own set of challenges. Williams aimed to create a welcoming environment while ensuring the space could accommodate a variety of creative needs. “I love the idea of design, so figuring out the colors and textures was important to me,” she explained. Ultimately, she chose a clean and neutral aesthetic that serves as a blank canvas for diverse photography styles.

Since its opening, Studio Onyx has received positive feedback from both clients and visitors. “The space has worked great for my own photoshoots as well as for those who have rented it,” Williams noted. Her current priority is to increase awareness about the studio and its availability for rental.

Studio Onyx is offered for hourly rentals, providing an accessible option for local creatives. Interested parties can book sessions through Williams’ website, sarahmarschallphoto.com/studio-onyx, where they can also manage payments and contracts. The studio is situated at 201 S. Broadway Ave, at the end of the hall on the second floor.

When not busy with photography or managing Studio Onyx, Williams resides in Wells with her husband and their two children. Her commitment to fostering a creative community is evident in her efforts to make the studio a versatile space for artistic collaboration.
