The Café and cocktail bar Foxtrot in Portland has transformed its bathroom into an extraordinary space that reflects a blend of nostalgia and creativity. Located at 3244 SE Belmont St within a historic Queen Anne manor previously home to the Pied Cow, Foxtrot has cultivated an atmosphere reminiscent of a warm family gathering, enhanced by an unusual yet inviting décor.
Owner Britain Stephens describes the bathroom’s aesthetic as an exaggerated homage to a grandmother’s vanity room. “It started with just a collection of those kind of ’80s gold mirrors,” he explains. This initial idea blossomed into a stunning hall of etched glass adorned with art deco flowers and birds, alongside an eye-catching double-stacked pedestal featuring a ceiling lamp in between. The result is a strikingly unique environment that feels both familiar and surreal.
A Work in Progress
Stephens views the evolving space as an ongoing art project. Since opening over a year ago, he has continuously added new elements to the bar’s various rooms, including the bathroom. “It’s just as if I was decorating my space, but maybe maximizing,” he notes. This creative endeavor reflects his passion for design and commitment to making the bar a welcoming venue.
